Camgirl Career steps

Written by a professional model:
Girls and guys all around the world earn big money on entertainment webcam sites. It is not even required to get naked in front of the camera, if you can put your sociability, charisma and sense of humor on a show.
Grateful audience will gladly award you with tokens (special chips of webcam sites, which then can be transferred into real money) or invite you to a private paid chat for a tete-a-tete conversation.
It is better to work on international websites because the audience there is more pleasant and generous compared to Russian websites.
Everything is very simple:
1.      1-Register on the website. There are hundreds and thousands of visitors online. You can register on several websites at once to choose the one that is best for you.
2.     2- Upload the document(s) confirming your age and personality (you cannot work
without it)
3.     3- Specify your payment data to receive payments. Russian webcam sites pay into WebMoney and other payment systems. International webcam sites pay by checks (which are received by mail and cashed in a bank), by bank transfer, or it is possible to order Payoneer payment card and withdraw money in any ATM (the best option).
4.     4- Everything is completed. You can turn on your web camera and start chatting and entertaining your guests. They will give you chips and invite you to a private paid chat to speak tete-a-tete.

5.      You can block regions and countries in your profile settings to make sure your friends and acquaintances don’t see you on a webcam site.

Cam girls. That phrase is rapidly entering the popular lexicon. Webcamming as a field becomes more and more popular among men who are looking for an interactive porn experience. At the same time, more and more women are also learning about camming but aren’t quite sure what the job is all about and how to actually become a cam girl.
Are you interested in becoming a webcam model (or ‘camgirl’ as we’re also known)? Wondering what the job entails and whether you have what it takes to be successful? As a full time cam girl who has worked successfully in this field for the past 4 years, I’m here to explain what this job involves, including both the risks and the rewards and (hopefully) give you a better sense of what you can expect to encounter on cam and in this field.
That’s how your usual worktime is going to look like:
What Happens on Cam Sites? How Do I Earn Money?

If you’ve never visited a cam site, you should probably do so now. What you’ll find is a site filled with thumbnail images, each image leading through to an individual camgirl’s chat room. If she’s in ‘free chat’ you’ll be able to enter her room and observe her interacting with visitors. If she’s in private chat you won’t be able to see her, as she’s in a paid show that only paying members are permitted to enjoy. On most cam sites cam girls make their money in private or ‘paid’ chat. The free chat room is where she interacts with her customers prior to them ‘taking her private’ for paid cam show. However, as explored below in the cam site section, on a few sites that have a slightly different ‘tipping’ culture, many cam girls earn the vast majority of their money in free chat by interacting with customers for tips.
You can find full list of cam sites at WebcamsRating. Find all the useful webcam links at CamFavs.
Here you can see how much people spend on cams. That’s how much one person spent on cam in August at the day screenshot was taken. It can be your client.

Equipment: What Every Camgirl Needs
In order to be a cam girl you need a webcam, a good lighting system, a fairly up-to-date computer and a decent internet upload speed.
The top webcam choices amongst camgirls include the Logitech 9000, the Logitech C920, and the Logitech C615. Notice a theme? The Logitech is king amongst webcam options for good reason; the webcams are high quality, durable and come at a reasonable cost. In the case of the 9000 you can purchase one for under $100 USD. Related to that, you need a decent lighting system in order to portray yourself on cam in as flattering a manner as is possible. Even supermodels need decent lighting!! Heavy shadows and dark rooms do not excite your potential customers, so play around with lighting options in front of the camera until you arrive at an arrangement that presents you best. The most popular lighting system is a ‘three point system’, with one light source positioned to the left, one to the right, and one lighting source directly in front of you. This system evens out unflattering shadows and grants your customers the highest quality view of your private shows together.
In terms of computers, do not try to cam on a netbook, as these types of computers are simply too lightweight to perform well. A powerful i5 or i7 Mac laptop will perform well, as will any decent desktop. Equally vital however is a good internet upload speed. Most internet users are more concerned with download speed rather than upload speed, but since camgirls ‘upload’ their video stream during broadcast the upload speed of an internet connection is most important to our purposes. 1 mbps is generally considered the bare minimum for a decent quality video stream, but a 3 mbps and above connection is ideal.
In order to cam you also need a private space from which to work, or alternatively you can seek out a physical cam studio (location from which several different camgirls who cannot cam from their homes use as their work environment). Physical cam studios either charge a flat rate or take a percentage of your earnings in order to cover the costs of running the physical studio

What Does Camming Involve? What Do I Need to Do To Be A Good Camgirl?
There are as many ways to be a camgirl as there are cam girls working in the industry. While the vast majority of camgirls do overtly sexual camming involving sex toys and nudity, some women become successful being non nude camgirls or fetish camgirls. Many camgirls do a mix of each style, and part of being a successful camgirl is figuring out what niches you fit into and working hard to gain customers within those niches. Do know that it is generally much more difficult to achieve success as a non-nude camgirl, and success as a fetish camgirl involves understanding different fetish niches and crafting a cam ‘persona’ that fits one’s chosen niche. Here one’s choice of cam site is important as well. While nude/sex toy camgirls generally do well on every site, fetish cam girls do best on sites such as StreamateAdultWork and IMLive. Fetish camgirls typically do not do well on myfreecams, although this site offers the best chance of achieving success as a non-nude camgirl.
Remember that, no matter which style of camming you choose to do, customers visit cam girls for personal interaction. If all our customers wanted was a generic sex show they’d watch porn, probably for free They come to us because we’re real people who can give them a personalized experience that caters to their desires. Uniqueness has value in our work, and that reality can be one of the most rewarding (and fun) aspects of being a cam girl. Don’t change yourself into what you think a ‘good cam girl’ should be, rather, adapt the job to suit your strengths and talents and recognize that your personality is an aspect of what you offer, so don’t diminish the value of that. As a cam girl you do more than sell virtual sex ‘show’, you provide live, personalized interactions with your customers that can range from conversation to hard core sex shows and everything in between.
What many cam girls fail to realize is that the quietest customers in a chat room, the ones NOT asking a million questions, are often the most lucrative and pleasurable customers. Interact with your room to maintain a good level of energy in your chat room, but never give too much individual attention to any one customer in free chat. Also, while you want to maintain a lively free chat room, you don’t want to send the message that you don’t want to be taken to private chat. Greet every guest who enters your room, but do not allow the incessant chatters in free chat to dominate your attention, as doing so makes it less likely that the quiet customers will invite you to a private show. Rather, when engaging with your chat room, address your free chat room guests as a group to subtly send the message that they will need to take you private for one-on-one attention. Always remember that your attention is the one asset your customers want the most, and that is what the best customers are seeking when they visit cam sites. The most successful cam girls recognize that they are not simply selling an appearance or sex show; they are offering customers a unique experience.
On any cam site, and in any style of camming, to be a successful camgirl you need confidence, patience and a strong work ethic. Confidence is important because as a cam girl you will encounter rude non-paying customers who thrive on being insulting. As most cam sites offer a block and/or silence button you can easily get rid of these people, but their words can be hurtful if you let them be. Number one tip; don’t let them get to you, just block them from your room and carry on 
The most important thing to remember when you become a cam girl is that you decide your own boundaries. Just because a customer offers to pay for something you’re not obligated to do it, and you decide what sort of behavior you allow in your cam room. Always remember that you are in control. Ban rude or obtrusive guests, and be energetic and pleasant with everyone else. Every successful cam girl finds her own personal style that works for them, so as you gain experience on cam you’ll find your own personal style if you pay attention to what works for you and what doesn’t. Some camgirls tease their potential customers in free chat, but not too much (you don’t want to give customers a free show) and some prefer to leave everything to their private shows. Provided you don’t show ‘below the belt’ nudity in free chat, what you choose to do is entirely up to you, and much of finding your own personal style involves trial and error. What may help is visiting the free chat rooms of some successful camgirls on the sites you’re planning to join, to get a better sense of what works and what doesn’t. Do not interrupt these camgirls while they’re working; just quietly observe several cam girls for a few minutes each to get a sense of what successful cam girls do in their free chat rooms.
While the ‘do’s’ tend to be quite individual to each cam girl depending upon her personal style and persona, there are some universal ‘do not’s’. Never show frustration or complain, even if you’re having a slow shift. You’re there to entertain, and guys who visit cam girls are not there to take on someone else’s problems. Also, don’t kick out guests who ‘lurk’ (don’t type chat), at least not during their first visit. Many paying customers do not try to monopolize the cam girl’s time in her free chat room; rather quite the opposite is often the case. The guys attempting to monopolize your attention in free chat asking a million questions often don’t go private at all.
Most importantly, never do anything that causes you either mental or physical discomfort. No amount of money is worth causing you distress.
Recognize as well that even on the best site there will be days when you’ll be in private chat constantly and days when the pace of paying traffic is slower. It takes time to build a base of regular clientele and camming is definitely not a get rich quick scheme. This is where patience and comes in. Look at camming like you are building a business, because you are. Achieving a steady high income doesn’t always happen overnight, and many new cam girls experience significant highs and lows in income from week to week.
Probably the biggest hurdle for new cam girls to overcome is the lack of a fixed schedule. In camming you are your own boss. No one is there to ‘force’ you to log into the cam site, so if you don’t have a strong work ethic and find it difficult to maintain initiative you may struggle. Being one’s own boss comes with a ton of freedom, but a significant level of responsibility as well. No is there to push you to go to work, it’s all up to you.

What Are the Risks of Being A CamGirl, Will I Be Found Out?
Being ‘outed’ is a risk every cam girl unfortunately takes. While many women are able to keep camming a secret from friends and family, know that the risk of being found out does exist. Even geo-blocking one’s own city is not a perfect system. Technical mistakes do occur, and even with geo-blocking cam girls cannot prevent customers from recording private shows and posting them on the internet. Entire websites are devoted to these ‘pirated’ private shows, and further, some sites allow their affiliates to use private show recordings in their advertising campaigns. To combat this risk some cam girls wear wigs or heavy make-up to alter their features, but even that is never a guarantee.
Beyond that immediate risk, the internet is forever. You never know when an old video may pop up, even years down the road, so even after one stops camming the digital footprint of one’s time in the ‘cam world’ still exists. This is a particular risk for women who wish to get into careers in teaching, or any career that involves dealing with children where the stakes in being ‘outed’ are high.
I say this not intending to scare anyone away from camming, rather to ensure that women interested in becoming cam girls can weigh the potential risks and benefits before deciding whether to pursue this work.

Hiding One’s Face on Cam
While it is understandable that many models do not wish to risk being identified as a webcam model, in general models who never show their faces on cam do not do very well. There are a few exceptions to this rule, of course, but in general in order to earn well as a webcam model one need to connect with one’s customers and that is very difficult to achieve when they never see your face.
There are a few tips to minimize risk of being ‘outed’ as a camgirl, which involve wearing wigs, contouring one’s face with heavy make-up and never including pictures of one’s face in profile and gallery photos, but even then the risk of being outed remains. In choosing to work as a webcam model there is always a risk that one’s identity will be discovered, as this is the nature of the internet. For that reason many camgirls argue that in order for the risk to be worthwhile one should maximize earnings as much as possible, and for most that means showing one’s face on cam. In short, if being outed as a cammodel would have a devastating impact on your life, this job is not for you. The risk is low but present, and even if you never show your face on cam there have been incidents where irresponsible cam sites and studios have left identity documents in unprotected directories available on the internet, tying real names to webcam personae. Luckily these incidents are rare but they have occurred. In sum, to be a cammodel means risking the chance that your adult work will be discovered, even if you do hide your face.

How to become successful model OR some webcam marketing
While cam sites offer marketing and promotion, driving traffic to chat rooms via advertising and white label websites, the most successful camgirls always promote themselves. Self-promotion not only helps one attract a larger base of customers, but also helps to build and maintain a base of regular clients.
For most camgirls, social media such as twitter, tumblr and instagram are popular forms of self-promotion. This can involve tweeting when one goes online, posting sexy pics that entice both new and returning clients back to one’s chat room and fostering a real connection with one’s clients by tweeting and posting about daily life. Further, blogs such as tumblr are an excellent vehicle for bringing your personality to the forefront of all that you offer, as the most lucrative and loyal regular patrons are interested in far more than just tits and ass.
In using social media and blogging it’s wise to create profiles, handles and blog dominas that contain your cam name, and this makes it easy for your regular clients to find you by doing a simple google or bing search, thus getting around the ‘no offsite contact’ rules that many cam sites enforce.
Marketing is about more than just spamming cam site profile links, it’s about engaging in a two-way dialogue with one’s followers and viewers, and while marketing can be time consuming it does pay off financially. Camgirls who blog and use social media such as twitter and instagram earn more than comparable models who rely solely upon cam site traffic, making the investment of time and effort more than worth it in the long run.

Terminology
Gold: the ‘currency’ used on streamate. 1 gold=$1 USD
Token: the ‘currency’ used on a variety of camsites.
myfreecams and chaturbate 1 token= $0.05 USD
Credits: the ‘currency’ used on AdultWork.com. 1 credit=1 GBP
Traffic: potential customers and observers in your free chat room. Not all traffic is created equal; as the amount of site users in your room does not necessarily translate into paying traffic (paying customers)
Free Chat: broadcasting for free, entertaining customers in one’s free chat room before being taken into a private (paid) show
Private Chat: pay per min private show with one or more cam site customers. Generally more than one customer can enter private chat, and the cam girl receives her per min rate from each customer in the private chat room
Exclusive Chat: a pay per min private show with one cam customer. No other customers may enter the private show; it is exclusive to one customer
Free Chat Optional: Offered on some cam sites such as AdultWork and IMLive. The cam girl has the option of setting her room to ‘private’. She is only paid when a customer enters her private chat room, but she does not entertain potential customers for free in free chat.
Geo-blocking: A feature of many sites that permits camgirls to ‘block’ customers from specific nations, states/provinces and/or cities from accessing her chat room. While geo-blocking affords camgirls an additional level of privacy, this feature is not perfect and does not guarantee that customers from blocked regions will be barred from viewing her room. Also, the use of geo-blocking excludes cam girls from advertising campaigns, meaning that she will receive less promotion than camgirls on her site that do not enable geo-blocking.
Virtual Studios: To be avoided. Virtual studios act as recruiters and trick unwitting camgirls into signing up to cam sites through their studios. Virtual studios offer nothing of value and take a portion of cam girl earnings while giving nothing of value in exchange.
Physical Studios: Are an option for cam girls who lack the space or privacy necessary to cam from their own homes. At a physical studio, the cam girl broadcasts from the property owned by the studio. The physical studio charges either a flat rate or deducts a percentage of the cam girl’s earnings in exchange for providing a location from which the cam girl may work.
Cam Score: a feature on myfreecams where camgirls are ranked based upon a numerical camscore that factors in time online, tokens earned and the amount of both in relation to other camgirls working that site. Placement on the site is based on camscore, with cam girls with the highest camscores ranked at the top of the home page
Chargebacks: Occur when a customer who has paid for a private show disputes that charge with his bank or credit card company and he receives a refund. Some sites such as streamate cover chargebacks, meaning the camgirl does not have her paycheck docked to cover the refund. Other sites such as IMLive, Cams.com and LiveJasmin do not cover chargebacks, meaning that cam girls may not be paid for every private show she performs. IMLive and LiveJasmin are generally considered to have higher than average levels of chargebacks.
Couples Camming: A cam site account upon which two or more individuals perform together. Generally cam sites require all parties involved in the account to upload proof-of-age identity documents. Undocumented performers are not permitted on any cam site.

Webcam sites: What Are My Options and What Mistakes Should I Avoid?
Once you have all your equipment ready and have decided which types of camming you’d like to try, it’s time to sign up to some cam sites and start working. The most important thing for cam girls to keep in mind when choosing how to sign up for a cam site is to avoid virtual studios. While physical studios offer some benefit, albeit at a high cost, to cam girls who lack a private space to work within their own homes, virtual studios offer no benefits and generally just collect a portion of your earnings for having recruited you. Many cam girls get tricked into joining studios and lose out on a significant portion of their earnings as a result. For more information on how to avoid studios and keep more of the money you earn on cam, check out this link.
Please note that if you encounter an ad online, chances are you dealing with a studio. Established cam sites that have paying traffic do not need to recruit models. Often virtual studios will attempt to trick girls into signing up with them, under the pretense that the either the studio owns a cam site, or grants special access to a wider range of cam sites and customers than cam girls would if they were to sign up directly to a site like ChaturbateStreamate,MyFreeCams or IMLive. In truth, this is a lie. In signing up to a virtual studio or ‘webcam modelling agency’ you will be working the very same sites that you would if you were to sign up to these sites directly, only in signing up directly you will be able to keep significantly more of your earnings. You do not need to join an agency to webcam, and any company offering special privileges or perks to women who sign up with them are lying.
One of the most notorious virtual studio companies is InternetModelling. This company advertises heavily and is primarily a virtual studio for Streamate. Women who join this studio lose out on $45 for every $100 they earn ‘in pocket’ (or 15% of the gross, before the cam site takes its 65% cut). For every $100 earned by a cam girl who signs up to Streamate directly, a cam girl who works for InternetModelling will only earn $55. Over time this adds up to a significant amount of money women are paying an agency who offers absolutely zero benefits in return. Further, it is very difficult to leave this studio once you are a member, and you are not permitted to work Streamateon an independent account for a full year after leaving InternetModelling. See below for the direct sign-up link to some of the most popular camsites:
  1. Chaturbate / Registration link
  2. LiveJasmin / Registration link
  • Streamate / Registration link
  • Cams.Com / Steamray / Registration link
  • AdultWork
  • MyFreeCams
  • ImLive
  • It’s generally recommended that cam girls sign up to a few different sites, at least two, in order to see which site works best for her. There is no one ‘perfect’ site, and different people can totally different experiences of the same cam site environment. Of everything written above, that’s the most important message I hope to convey. There is no ‘one size fits all’ earnings bracket, cam site or method of camming. Everything about this job is intensely unique, and learning as you go is a big part of the job. There is a tremendous freedom inherent to that, in that you are completely your own boss and YOU decide what to do and where and when to do it, but that uncertainty can be intimidating and unnerving as well. Have confidence in your ability to do well, work hard and you’ll be in the best position to succeed in this field.

    Accounting for webcam model
As self-employed independent contractors it is essential that camgirls keep track of earnings, as there is no hourly wage or salary to rely upon. Many camgirls create daily or weekly earnings goals based on the following factors:
fixed expenses (rent/mortgage, phone bill, etc)
typical discretionary spending levels (food, entertainment, etc)
taxes (which vary based upon nation of residence)
savings (both long term and short term/emergency funds)
Once added up and divided down to daily or weekly amounts it’s much easier and accurate to discern the earnings amounts that will be required to maintain one’s desired lifestyle, meet one’s needs, pay taxes and save and plan for the future. These latter two items (taxes and savings) are often neglected but are equal in importance to items such as fixed expenses. Taxes need to be paid, and finding yourself at tax time unable to pay your bill is not a position in which any camgirl should ever find herself. In terms of savings, since camming is an inherently unstable income source (in that there is no hourly wage or salary) and comes with no medical or dental benefits, having savings to coast through lean times, health issues or unexpected expenses is vitally important.
To create an earnings goal and accounting system first decide whether you wish to create a daily goal or a weekly goal. Then compile your expenses, estimated taxes and savings goal for the month and then divide by either 30 (for daily goals) or 4 (for weekly goals). At the end of each day or week compare that goal with your target goal to see where you stand, and adjust earnings goals for the following days or week accordingly.
Being a self-employed independent contractor means that camgirls are solely responsible for their own earnings, accounting and protection. As such, compiling one’s exact income needs and planning to achieve the earnings goals required is vital to long term success and financial success.

BEGINNERS GUIDE TO BEING A CAM GIRL (NSFW)

Getting a real part-time job as a waitress or a shop assistant is boring and time consuming.

Your student loan won’t cover everything – the measly amount the government lends you just about covers your rent and not much else. So, what are you gonna do, get a real part-time job? Sell your soul to the retail or catering devil? Nope, there’s another way to earn some extra cash to fund your casual synthetic drug addiction.  How about becoming a cam girl? Sure, you might have to distort some of your values, but it’s all about empowerment and being independent, right?

    UNDERWEAR
This is important. You don’t want to be revealing too much on your free page. It’s a bit like dating – you shouldn’t give away too much too soon. Even creepy guys who trawl the net looking for girls who touch themselves want a bit of a chase. Men are weird like that.

    CONVERSATION
Being a cam girl also requires some sort of positive social skill and the ability to small talk. You need to be available for conversation with your audience. I suggest you talk about neutral topics, such as the weather and what you like doing in your free time. Not only are you earning money by casually chatting with strangers, but this probably means the masturbation bit (the most yucky part about the whole thing) might be a bit shorter, as he’s had longer to think about doing nasty things to you.

    SURROUNDINGS
Do not neglect this. You need to stand out from all the other girls who are cam-ing. The sad truth is, the other girls probably do it all day long and it’s their only income. But, there’s competition in any form of work, so don’t think about your #firstworldproblems. You need to make sure you are comfortable and that your surroundings seem warm and inviting. Nobody wants to do the deed looking at a clinical turd-filled toilet or a sparse grey bedroom with kids running around.  Besides, people who are into things like that, probably know a bunch of disgusting niche sites that do that stuff already.

    SEX
You might be lucky and so incredibly stunning that just a glimpse of your diamond box will be enough to tip your audience over the edge, which will help you get paid and enable you to move on to better things. Unfortunately, not all of us are blessed with the beauty of a child whose parents are BeyoncĂ© and David Gandy, so you might have to get a bit dirty. If you really don’t want to be doing it for too long, warm him up with lots of dirty convo: talk about how much of a slut you are and how much you want his scarily large penis inside your vagina.  If that doesn’t work, light some candles and lie back and think of Ryan Gosling while you finger your cam-partner with a 16 inch rubber dildo.
So that’s it, girls – you’ve got more than enough to get you started on the road to cam-girl stardom. Don’t forget the obvious risk that you’re submitting your naked body and real face to the internet. So use fake names and fake locations – you don’t want to come home after a night out to find Miguel from Brazil outside your door, waiting to surprise his favourite cam-girl with a box of chocolates and bottle of GHB.
(ps: if you’re emotionally unstable, please DO NOT become a cam girl – attention from gross men will not help your self-esteem and nobody likes a needy bitch.)

    CAMGIRL DIARY

biancagirlOn her website, camgirl Hellen Roxx describes her turn-ons as “the same as every other girl—a huge wallet and a thick stream of compliments!” She’s worked as a camgirl for three and a half years now. Hellen’s full-time job consists of filming videos and taking photos of herself to sell to guys online. Hellen independently manages all of her work, from doing her own filming and video editing to creating her own website advertising her services. Hellen talked to Sensa Nostra about being a camgirl, discussing how her work affects her personal life, the ins and outs of the industry, and the stigma surrounding sex workers.
In my mid-teen years, I thought being a stripper would be fascinating. I loved the idea of teasing men and being paid for it. I started to research stripping, eager to learn everything I could about it. Shortly after I started my first semester at university, I read a thread on a stripper forum about camgirls. People were talking about girls logging on to cam sites and being paid to tease guys from all around the world. All you needed was a webcam and a computer with an internet connection. I had just gotten a student loan for school, and I thought I could login to cam sites an hour here and there, and be able to pay off my debt quickly.
When I first started I was so innocent! Nobody believed I was old enough to be legal. I refused to get completely naked because I wasn’t interested in doing nude shows. I still don’t do full nude, but now it’s because I’m known for being a tease rather than baring all. I didn’t have any toys or lingerie; I’d just chat with viewers and dance, stripping down to my bra and panties. The majority of my viewers were very sweet and helpful as I learned the ropes. I still get a bit nervous before I come online, but once I’m on it’s exciting and fun. It’s important to remember that it’s your chat room, it’s your show, and you are the boss. Being the one in control makes it a lot less scary.
On cam sites I make between $3.00 to $4.00 per minute in private shows. But I prefer making digital content, because I can sell photos and videos over and over again, even when I’m not online. I take orders for custom content, ranging from $5.00 to $7.00 per minute for videos, and about $0.75 per picture. This might sound like I’m grossly overpaid, but a ten minute HD video will take me at the absolute least an hour and a half to film and edit. Every step of my work—in front of the camera and behind the camera—is done by me. I also offer texting, so I sell my phone number for $100.00. I sell panties for $50.00, and will be offering pantyhose, socks, and shoes soon to meet demands for them.
This is my full-time job. I don’t think I’d be able to find the time to maintain my success online as well as at another job! My income varies month-to-month, as it’s entirely based on commission. Cam sites take anywhere from 35 to 65% of the money a buyer spends, and also charge camgirls to receive their monthly cheque. After all this, I have to put aside 30% of my income for taxes. I don’t like listing an average amount that I earn per month, but I will say that this is my sole source of income, I am completely debt-free, and I just bought a five-bedroom house in Alberta, Canada. I do well, but there is always room for improvement.
I have a loyal customer base, and I’ve become very close with some of them. There are a few guys I talk with almost every day. I feel like the appeal of a camgirl is being able to interact with the person who is fulfilling your fantasy. The more I know about a guy and the closer we are, the better I can meet or exceed his desires. I have a few guys who just adore sending me surprise gifts and making me smile. I’m really spoiled, I think: I have around five hundred lingerie outfits, two hundred pairs of panties, lots of shoes, and about thirty toys. But my guys also send me things like books, clothes, kitchen gadgets, purses, jewelry, computer games… My regular guys like to show their appreciation for my work. I’ve only had problems with a few customers. Some guys think after they’ve purchased a service, they own me. These people are few and far between, but they’re unpleasant to deal with. I don’t sell myself, I sell my services and my time. When someone pays me, they are purchasing my attention, not my autonomy.
Personal safety is probably the number one challenge of being a camgirl. Most girls take some precautions to make sure that they will be safe in their ‘real life’, because almost everyone has a story or has a friend with a story about a stalker. It’s better to be safe than sorry, and as sex workers people inevitably have a “She was asking for it” view if anything happens to us. The stigma of being a sex worker is definitely a problem. People have all sorts of opinions about the type of person I am purely because of my job. It’s upsetting when a friend or family member learns about my job and makes wildly inaccurate statements about sex workers. Knowing whom to tell about my job is another challenge. If I tell a friend, will they still be friends with me? Will they judge me, threaten me, harass me? If I choose not to tell someone about my job, how long can I maintain the lie? If they find out I’ve lied, will they be upset?
My family does know about my job. Their initial reaction wasn’t pleasant, and I won’t say they’ve now accepted it, but they know that I love my work and am very good at it. My close friends know the basics of what I do, but I don’t often share details like my work name or website address. Some girls get angry, and some guys get obsessive. I’ve learned to be pretty selective about who I trust. Almost all of my local friends are camgirls—it’s easier to trust someone who understands the need for being careful. I have met so many incredible, beautiful, inspiring women because of this job, and am happy to have this support network.
I’ve had two long-term boyfriends over the course of my cam career. Neither was thrilled about my job, but after I kindly informed them that my career is not a choice they get to make, they accepted it. Almost without fail, when I tell a guy about my job, I’m told how hot it is, and that I should give him a private show. I’ve had to cut quite a few guys out of my life because they stop viewing me as a person and start thinking of me as their personal porn actress and demand to see my work for free. On the other end of the spectrum, there are guys who tell me how degrading it is for me to ‘sell my body’ and want to save me. Neither of these is the type of guy I want to interact with. My current partner and I discuss my work as if it were any other job: he’ll ask how my day was, I’ll share a story or two, and that’s it. I don’t go into great detail. My partner knows that I love what I do, and that I work hard to be successful. Once in a while he’ll offer up a suggestion or advice on something I’m doing.
Who I am as a camgirl is very much who I am in my regular life, but with a few traits enhanced. When I’m working I’m playing out a fantasy, so I’m a more dominant, more teasing, more sexual version of myself. Camming has made me incredibly self-confident. When you have thousands of men telling you you’re a goddess, it makes it difficult to care when a random person insults your appearance. Camming has also helped me explore my sexuality. I’ve learned about and acted out a ton of fetishes I wouldn’t have discovered otherwise. Admiring so many fellow camgirls has made me more open about my orientation as well, and I’ll openly admit that I’m attracted to all genders.
Being a camgirl is not for everyone. Before anyone considers entering this industry they should spend a long time thinking about whether or not they are prepared. There are a few things I would tell someone who wants to work as a camgirl. First off, don’t ever do anything you are uncomfortable with. It’s important to set and enforce your own boundaries, because people will try to push your limits. Secondly, be prepared for a backlash. Know that people will probably judge you when they find out about your work. Be careful who you trust, in your personal life and online. Last but not least, know the value of your time. Set your rates at amounts you are happy with, and don’t interact with people who upset you. For anyone who wants more advice on this, I have a section on my website called Camgirl Corner where I post articles for camgirls.
My favourite things about this job are the money, the people, and the freedom. I get to control when I work, how much I charge, what I will and won’t do, and whom I interact with. I also get to meet some amazing viewers and form friendships with people all over the world. I’ve gone to a local strip club to check things out, but I prefer the security of working at home and being able to log off whenever I want. Besides, I think there is always more to learn, and there are so many things I’d still like to do and achieve with this job. When I started, camming was a means to an end for me, a way to pay off my school debt. Now, seeing how well I’ve done, and seeing the potential for more success, I think I’ll be a camgirl for a long time. I love my job, I love the people I’ve met, and I love the person I’ve become because of it.
